Tamworth Castle

'statue of Aethelfleda (869 - 918), Princess of wessex who married Aethelred II of Mercia. Tamworth being capital of Mercia at that time. England, as such, didn't exist being divided into several kingdoms (Wessex, Mercia, Northumbria etc)'

Uffington, Whitehorse & Wayland Smithy

"View from White Horse Hill" - The Uffington White Horse is on the Berkshire Downs - but, somewhat confusingly, in Oxfordshire!. The Downs are rolling chalklands - cut away the turf and the chalk is easily visible. Cut it away into the stylised shape of a horse and you have a tourist-attracting mystery.

Peter Julia and me on whitehorse--We've walked down off Whitehorse Hill and are heading for the track to our left on that photo; 'The Ridgeway' - a historic packhorse route which is, unusually, still open to any vehicle that can traverse it. This makes it a favourite with greenlaners and trailbike riders since vehicluar access to most of the countryside is very restricted

the entrance to 'The electric mountain'- the Dinorwig powerstation. There's an entire hydro-electric powerplant inside the mountain. A lake at the top is drained to power the turbines during times of need and then cheap electricity is used to pump it all back up when the network has excess power available
